Anybody can find oneself in a long-term rehabilitation centre. Some of them are fortunate, because their beloved ones are waiting for them outside. However there are others, who have nobody to wait for them. They are lonely. These elderly people have nothing but their memories and their personal belongings with themselves. Their whole life and private sector is inside the rehabilitation centre. The belongings that are held in this area connect them to the outside world and to their families.

I took these photographs in a long-term rehabilitation centre in Vac, Hungary. While I was interviewing my subjects, step by step I gradually became more and more curious about their protected private sector and the past they have left behind. It was interesting to explore the different life stories and to get to know how these elderly lives met enclosed in the walls of the ward.
